Northeast Ohio has one of the strongest U-pick apple traditions in the Midwest. Within an hour of downtown Cleveland you can pick Honeycrisp, Gala, Fuji, and heirloom varieties, wash them down with a warm cider donut, and watch the kids climb a hay bale mountain. This curated guide is our editors' shortlist of the farms that consistently deliver the best Cleveland apple picking experience.
Cleveland's apple season opens in late August with Ginger Gold and Zestar, hits peak weekends from mid-September through mid-October with Honeycrisp, Gala, and Jonagold, and winds down with late-season Fuji, Pink Lady, and Braeburn into early November. Weekends after Labor Day fill fast, so most orchards recommend arriving before 11 a.m. or booking a timed-entry ticket if the farm offers one.
Rain the week before your visit changes what's ready. Call ahead, or check the orchard's Facebook for the current pick list. Our apple ripening calendar also maps varieties to weeks so you can time the trip to the apple you actually want.
